About this test
Your blood sugar after a night without food. It is the first test for diabetes and the one used to follow it.
Before your test
- •Nothing to eat after dinner; the sample is taken the next morning.
- •Do not eat for 10 hours before the sample. Water is fine.
- •Carry on taking your regular medicines unless your doctor has said otherwise.
- •Bring the doctor's prescription if you have one — it helps the lab file the report to them.
